"The Enclave Project" at the Leamington Arts Centre - July 3rd through August 4th, 2013
THE ENCLAVE PROJECT
Susan Dupont Baptista, Colleen Thompson, Vera Graham
OPENING RECEPTION | Thursday, July 4, 6-8pm
enclave: a safe haven surrounded by hostile territory
project: a dream with a deadline
Susan Dupont Baptista along with fellow artists Colleen Thompson, Vera Graham have combined their energies and talents to form “The Enclave Project”.
It is an ever evolving collective moving freely as the art choreographs it’s existence.
This inaugural show at the LAC reflects their individual and collective experiences in life, art and politics. It is reactionary art without
edit or apology and is a departure from the usual expectation, execution and/or purpose of their art.
It has been said that “showing one’s art is like dancing naked in public”. Consider this our dance.

The Leamington Farmers' Market
You can find me at the Leamington Farmers' Market most Saturday mornings year round. Local folks know that I can always spare a few minutes to talk about custom
works and signs - this is where my clients track me down. It is the place to be in our little town. Below are some of the arts & crafts I bring to my constantly changing booth - it is a social outing as well as a fulfilling venue to let out my fun/artsy side - I'll leave the serious business of art for Monday through Friday - this is where I have fun!

Paglione Estate Winery
I have been having loads of fun working with my long-time clients Sam & Nancy at their Italian style villa which will open mid June 2013 on Heritage Road in Harrow, Ontario. Pass by and sample their delightful wines and enjoy the peaceful setting. Take some time out to sip local wine and see my paintings and murals which adorn the walls and ceiling! The gallery of paintings are available for purchase.
St Elias Maronite Catholic Church
I recently had the honour of painting murals in the altar area as well as the foyer of this beautiful new church. Special thanks to Monsenior Charles Saad, Father Daniel Fares and all of the wonderful people from the church who showed me hospitality and friendship during my seven weeks in London. I look forward to seeing you all again.
15th National Mural Symposium
October 12, 13 and 14, 2012
The symposium, presented by Mural Routes of Toronto and the Town of Essex was a three day event between Essex and Windsor, ON. The symposium covered things such as municipal affairs, public and private parnerships, restoration, best practices, health and safety, contracts, visual/tactile murals, fundraising and project management. The keynote speaker was Meg Saligman from Philadelphia - her work and guidance were beyond inspirational. The one-on-one time I had with the world's foremost muralist (in my humble opinion, of course) is invaluable. This was the best thing I ever did for myself and my career. I've met some great people and colleagues from all over the world. We started the "Fellowship of the Brush", and made plans to meet again in 2014 when the symposium heads for Sherbrooke, Quebec.
Art in the Parkette at the LAC
Summer, 2012
Kim, Colleen and I had a riot all summer, selling our wares and talking to everyone who passed by our displays on the grass outside of the Leamington Arts Centre. We were tour guides, art promoters, and philosophy majors all summer long (7 weekends). Lots of sweating, tonnes of laughter and memories for a lifetime, compadres.
Fine Art Fine Wine at Pelee Island Winery
May 26 and 27, 2012
Fellow artists Kim Sabelli and Colleen Thompson and I shared a funfilled weekend at the picturesque Pelee Island Winery in Kingsville, Ontario.
Art Show "Vignettes...Mercados Souks & Fairs"
February 1-25 2012 at the Leamington Arts Centre
Susan recently held a solo exhibition at the Leamington Arts Centre. It was a collection of paintings and other works inspired by her many travels and experiences with different people and cultures. Her interest in the humanities, studies of people, their history, culture, language and the environments in which they live has been a passion of hers since she was a small child. It was an homage to the people she has met along the way, and the homeland and history of her family and those she holds dearest. Dedicated to all of the wonderful surprises around each bend in the road and far corner of the markets that are so important to village life and culture, it was a collection of the places she has been and where she longs to go.
Thank you to all who attended. See you at the next show!
Completion of Phase II, St. Charbel Parish, Windsor
Susan has just finished her part in a beautiful makeover of the inside of St. Charbel Parish in Oldcastle. In February 2010 Susan did a panoramic mural on the wall behind the altar, and this November and December, (2011), extended the original mural on the walls adjacent to it and added murals of ancient stone and blue sky in and around the large niches on either side of the altar. As always, she found it to be a pleasure to work with the staff, clergy and parishoners of this wonderful family like community.
God bless and rest in peace Father Chaaya.
